The claves rhtyhmTime to try a more advanced rhythm. In this lesson we'll play two chords in each bar. The first chord is at the beginning just like in lesson 2. That's easy. The second chord is a bit more tricky - it's right between beat two and three. This rhythm is often known as the "claves" rhythm and is very common in almost all kinds of "Afro-American rhythmic music."Here's a midi example of how it should sound. Try to play it along with the midi a couple of times. When you think you've got the "feel" of it, you can try just the backing instead. The backing track is identical to the one we used in the previous lesson, except it's a tiny bit faster.
TurnaroundIn the first verse of this example we don't play the twelve bar blues exactly the way you learned it in lesson 2. The first 11 bars are identical, but in the last bar we have a D rather than a G. This is called a turnaround and is basically a signal saying: the tune isn't ended yet, another verse coming up!
